The Dead Rise First Rapture Countdown Vessel Publishers Alton Ragan Robert D. McLaughlin ©2008 by Alton Ragan Three Stars What if the events described in Thessalonians 4:16-17 don’t happen simultaneously? In The Dead Rise First, Ragan and McLaughlin paint an interesting hypothesis that explains why the dead will rise before those who remain. The residents of Jordan, Oklahoma wake up to a loud bang and no electricity, no phones, no cars. They soon learn the problem is wide-spread. Christians claim that many graves have been opened and that they see dead relatives walking through the town, eating and interacting with their loved ones. And as some investigate the cemeteries, they are surprised to discover which graves have been opened and those that have remained shut. They ask the question, is Jesus coming soon? How long? Local authorities suspect a terrorist attack; an EMP detonated to disable the nearby air force base. Now there are wide-spread rumors of “ghosts,” not typical apparitions but actual breathing walking live people who were once dead. Authors, Ragan and McLaughlin have combined to produce an unusual view of end times. I did find that the book did not measure up to literary standards, however, the plot was sufficiently interesting to carry the book forward. Heavy in long dissertations and explanations, scriptural defense of the authors' position, dragged the pace down. Yet, the plot intrigued and I recommend the book to End of Times enthusiasts.
