Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Proverbs 3:27
Why is a kind word so hard to give? Why is it we have difficulty rejoicing with others? Why do we find it so hard to offer encouragement when someone has failed? So much easier to point a finger and say, “I told you so.” Maybe we secretly relish the failing because another’s sad report raises us a few notches off the heap of despair. Or maybe we are so consumed with jealousy over another’s good fortune, we want sabotage their joy with negativity. God upholds us when we are sad. He laughs with us when we laugh. He takes pleasure when we are happy. Shouldn’t we strive to do the same for others?
