Life in Defiance
Book Three of Defiance Texas Trilogy
By Mary E. Demuth
Copyright©2010

For those who complain that Christian Literature is more about
preaching and less about writing, I give you Mary E. Demuth, a writer
who tells a gripping story in a well-written, nearly poetic style, holds
the attention of the reader, and delivers a message that strikes at the
heart of every churchgoer.

Life in Defiance is Oussie Pepper’s turn to tell her story. We first met
her in Daisy Chain, Jed Pepper's story, and again in Slow Burn,
Emory Chance’s story. We knew Ouissie's life with her minister
husband Hap was burdened with secrets, secrets that drove her to
become a closet drinker. As she struggles with domestic violence
and the guilt of her own sin, we come to appreciate the complicated
life that defines a Child of God.

If you are looking for a book that paints a perfect Christian, these are
not your stories. Demuth gets down to the gritty truth that Christians
often struggle with baggage. They hide their imperfections behind
the expectations forced on them by a church that wants everything
to be perfect. They believe Satan’s lies that if they are truly born
again, their lives will be perfect in Him. Christians forget that our
Christian experience is one of growth toward a perfection that will
only be seen when we are forever with Him.

As a town still reels from the shock of the still unsolved case of a
young girl’s murder, we realize Oussie believes she knows the
murderer yet feels compelled to remain silent. Through Oussie’s
eyes the reader is taken into the mystery as the killer is finally
revealed.

Demuth is a gifted writer who brings you into her stories through
raw and truthful emotion. A must read.
