Be joyful always, pray continually;
give thanks in all circumstances, for
this is God's will for you in Christ
Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Now there’s a tall order. Joyful always?
Am I supposed to smile sweetly when
the credit card company has double
charged me? Or am I supposed to be
happy that my pie looks like the
blooper of the month picture? Or am I
supposed to be all sugar and goo when I’
ve just wrecked the car? I suppose the
answer is that we are to review the
circumstance in the light of God’s
goodness, power, and sovereignty.
When we do that, the frustrations, even
those leading to illness and trouble,
melt away. By quoting a scripture, we
can raise our head in triumphant faith
and say, “He is Lord.”
